Beauty of The Lord - Jared Anderson

This is one of my favorite worship songs. The first time I heard it, I was in love with it. There's something about declaring the beauty of the Lord that makes my spirit soar and my eyes well up with tears. This song always draws my spirit deeper into God's presence.

The song was recorded by the band Desperation in the key of 'A'. I transposed it to the key of 'G' because I have a low singing voice and it's easier to play this way. If 'G' is too low for you to sing comfortably in, use a capo and go up up a fret or two, till you find a key comfortable for singing.

The strumming pattern on the verse is a fast, repetitive progression of G, Em7 and D chords. Hold for 2 beats on G, followed by one beat on Em7 and one beat on D - then back to G. If you listen to the recording it's fairly easy to pick out the strumming pattern; the piano is the dominant instrument, so follow it for the rhythm.

I'm not an accomplished player, so I use cheats when practical. This song can be played with Em instead of Em7. But I usually play chord progressions of G/ D/ Em/ and C with my 3rd finger on the 3rd fret of the B string. Em becomes Em7 and C becomes Cadd9. With the 3rd finger in this position you can also play Bm7 and Asus. When playing a D chord, I usually fret the Low E string at the 3rd fret making D into D/F#. Keeping the 3rd finger in this position, all you need to do is move your first two fingers to the right place. Thousands of songs can be played once you master this technique. Playing these chord variations makes easy playing for beginners.
